Nyala Camp is situated on the western edge of the Timbavati Game Reserve,
part of the Greater Kruger National Park, in an exclusive area of 2 700ha which
includes the perennial Klaserie River and the non-perennial Monwana River. There
is an abundance of wildlife in this area, including steenbok, duiker, giraffe, zebra,
wildebeest, impala, kudu, bushbuck, nyala, rhinoceros, warthog, buffalo, lion,
leopard, elephant, hyena, genet, civet, bushbaby, baboon, monkey and porcupine
and the possibility of seeing African Wilddogs.
The 53 000ha Timbavati Game Reserve is a large proclaimed game reserve made
up of a conglomerate of privately-owned properties the owners of which have
elected to ensure that their land remains as pristine wilderness to be conserved
for future generations. It has a common unfenced boundary with the Kruger
National Park and wildlife moves freely between the two conservation areas and
other private land to the north and south.
All in all, the Timbavati has about 50 large mammal species and another 25 or
so small mammal species such as rodents, shrews and bats. There are about
70 reptile species recorded, 44 Amphibians, more than 250 bird species and
somewhere in the region of 75 tree species, including some magnificent boababs.
